Maps Image API- Getting Started

The simplicity of the API lies in the fact that it is an HTTP request to the server with desired parameters.

Each Map Image API request is of the format:

http://m.nok.it/{resource}?app_id=XXX&token=YYY&parameter=value&...

{resource}	Optional address resource for specific functionality (see Resource table).
app_id	Your own identifier for an application, to allow you to track usage (see Acquiring API credentials)
token	A unique id to identify your application with the Map Image API (see Acquiring API credentials)
parameter	parameters for specific functionality (see Parameter availability table)

Acquiring API credentials

Map Image API for HTTP invokes an authentication service when accessing maps online. Although it is possible to obtain access without acquiring authentication credentials, such access may be restricted or of inferior performance. In order to get the full potential out of the API, you must get credentials that authenticate your application against the services. Please read through the Location API Business Models and Usage Restrictions page, so that you can decide which business model fits your needs best. The authentication itself requires your unique Maps API credentials, namely app_id and token. You can get these credentials from the API Registration page at Nokia Developer Web pages.

Resource table

The following resources are available

no entry for {resource}	Displays a basic map, this is the common map representation for positioning information; it includes the possibility of displaying address information, POIs or traffic.
route	One or more routes are drawn as polylines based on given waypoints.
turnpoint	A turning point shown by an arrow is represented.
junction	This represents a request for junction view image. If multiple waypoints are entered, the first latitude/longitude pair matching the coordinates of a junction is used for display. If no junction view image is found, a 1x1 pixels transparent PNG image is returned.
p	A HTML-based places search is initiated where detailed information of the places are delivered along with map images. If no parameter is specified, a search page is returned.
dynamic.jsp	Displays a pannable, scrollable map, supporting some of the basic map parameters
