NFC - Getting started

Designing NFC applications Development options Testing Application distribution

When designing applications that use NFC technology, there are several factors that need to be considered in order to ensure a consistent, high-quality user experience. The Design and User Experience Library discusses the physical considerations related to antenna location, gestures, and grip; provides usability guidance; and introduces example UI flows.

NFC feature management

In order to achieve a seamless user experience applications must correctly handle NFC related functionality.

First the application needs to check for presence of NFC technology on the device and adapt its functionality appropriately (i.e. enable/disable NFC related features). In cases where NFC is available as a firmware upgrade (as it the case with C7, where NFC is enabled only via Symbian Anna or later firmware release) it may alert the user to upgrade their firmware.

Second the application should monitor the status of NFC radio setting and alert the user in case the NFC is turned off in the Connectivity settings.

Please refer to this wiki article explaining on how to implement this logic in your application with examples provided.
