Connecting you with the Series 40 opportunity
Whether you own a global brand or service consumers in your local community, Series 40 web apps will enable you to engage with them more readily. By offering a rich UX you can create stickiness in ways that have not been possible before.
Cloud-assisted web apps – beauty with efficiency
Traditionally, proxy-based browsing has offered users a very limited experience, because such browsers typically do nothing more than paint content provided by a proxy. This has changed, with Nokia Browser for Series 40 support for Series 40 web apps. Using Mobile Web Library, the Nokia Browser for Series 40 client can execute JavaScript code in web apps. This code makes it possible to create interactive user interfaces and graphical transitions to deliver users beautiful web experiences. Now web designers and developers can deliver compelling application experiences to users at low cost — both in terms of development effort and user data charges.
With the latest version of the Series 40 browser, Series 40 web apps can now go even further by offering users location aware web apps and the ability to send SMS messages. Location features leverage the network-based location capabilities of Series 40 phones for accurate and timely location information. In addition, performance has been enhanced further with images embedded in a web app now cached on the user's phone for faster page loads and refreshes.

Nokia Web Tools — putting you in full control
Nokia Web Tools delivers the tools you need to create rich Series 40 web apps. Built on the Eclipse platform, Web Developer Environment delivers all the key features you need to author web content. In addition, custom features to enable the creation, editing, debugging, packaging, and deployment of Series 40 web apps are included, along with the latest Mobile Web Library APIs.
Because you have full control of the content of your web app, you can incorporate features to monetize your web app by integrating third-party advertising APIs. Such APIs include NAVTEQ LocationPoint Advertising that can be used to deliver country specific advertisements.
Development is further streamlined by Web App Simulator, which enables Series 40 web apps to be previewed and tested on a computer. The simulator provides many features to mimic the behaviour of the phones your web app will be running on, even enabling you to specify location information to test your location-aware web apps. In addition, an implementation of Web Inspector within the simulator means you can debug your web apps and examine several aspects of its performance.
