Near Field Communication (NFC) is an emerging short-range radio technology that is poised to revolutionise how we use mobile phones in everyday interactions.
In this webinar, we introduce you to the basics of NFC and how the technology is implemented in Nokia Lumia phones. We also
demonstrate how you can use NFC from the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 Proximity API in your applications to share content, read
data from and write data to NFC tags, and create your own application-launch tags.

App-to-app-communication support is a powerful addition to Microsoft Windows Phone 8, which enables your apps to use the functionality
of other apps. And when you register the types of files and URI resources that your apps can handle, it also helps increase
the discoverability of your apps in Windows Phone Store. In this lab, you learn how to use file and URI associations for app-to-app
communication. You also see how to use these associations to have your app automatically launched when another app launches
a specific file type or URI scheme and learn about deep links that send a reference to the file or URI to your app. This webinar
also introduces the association-launching API, which enables your app to launch another app in the same way.

Testing Microsoft Windows Phone 8 apps on multiple Nokia Lumia smartphones has been an expensive exercise in buying and maintaining
several smartphones in your own testing lab — until now. We recently added a range of Nokia Lumia smartphones to our Remote Device Access (RDA) service. Now you can test your apps on multiple models, free of charge, any time of day or night. In this training-lab webinar,
we’ll show you how to access RDA for free, outline its features, show you how to set up your computer to use the service,
and review the limitations of the service. If you want to give your apps a thorough testing across the range of Nokia Lumia
smartphones before submitting them to the Windows Phone Store, RDA is just the ticket.

Xamarin is the maker of Xamarin.iOS (formerly MonoTouch) and Xamarin.Android (formerly Mono for Android), which enable developers to write native applications for Apple iOS and for Android by using C# and Microsoft .NET. Use of these tools enables major code sharing among three of the major mobile platforms (since Microsoft Windows Phone uses .NET out of the box). This session will first give you a quick look at the Xamarin mobile platform and then dig into some real cross-platform mobile applications to show you how to share application code among the iPhone, iPad, Android, and Windows Phone versions. In doing so, the session will cover architectural best practices as well as design considerations. A walkthrough of the code will illustrate the architecture in implementation.
