Symbian iconography guidelines

The purpose of these guidelines is to help you to create new icons for Symbian devices.

Note: The ‘All-in-one’ Nokia Icon Toolkit contains launcher icon templates for all Nokia platforms. In addition, list and toolbar icon templates are provided for use in Symbian and Series 40. See also:

Before creating a new icon, you should review the suite of SVG icons for existing metaphors, elements, and indicators. If they already exist, be sure to use these rather than creating new icons.

All new icons should be visually aligned with these existing Symbian icons:

The Nokia Icon Toolkit contains a collection of the following icons that are already in use:

  • List icons
  • Toolbar icons

All of the original Symbian icons are available in SVG format.

You can choose icons from these collections, open them in a vector program, rename them for your application, and save them in SVG-T format ready for use on the device. If necessary, you can also adjust the icons for your application.

Tip: Use the SVG converter to convert the icon to SVG-T for implementation on the device.
