Symbian Web Runtime (WRT) was introduced in S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 devices. Symbian Web Runtime makes it possible to use the Web Browser for Symbian engine to create small applications, called widgets. Widgets can be installed directly on the mobile device, allowing them to run without opening the browser. The following table summarizes the significant features introduced for each version of the Symbian Web Runtime platform.
Symbian Web Runtime version |
Features introduced |
|---|---|
1.0 |

|
7.4 (Part of the Nokia Belle mobile operating system refresh release, along with Symbian Browser 7.4. Symbian WRT 7.4 is not available as an independent release.) |
None, bug fixes only. Most notably, a bug is fixed so that you can use the viewport meta tag in home screen widgets. For more information on this bug, see What's new in Symbian Web Runtime 7.3. For more information on the viewport meta tag, see Viewport meta tag support. |
The Symbian Web Runtime environment is generally backward-compatible, with exceptions specified here.
Widgets created for Symbian WRT 1.0 run normally with Symbian WRT 1.1 and later versions. You should take newer technologies, such as different display sizes and the introduction of touch UI, into consideration when running Symbian WRT 1.0 widgets on newer mobile devices.
Widgets created using the Symbian WRT 1.1 or later Platform Services APIs do not work with Symbian WRT 1.0.
