The Embedded Systems and Pervasive Computing Lab (Embedded Lab) is in a 1,200 square meter building in the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) campus in Brazil. All research and development activities within the Embedded Lab are related to the areas of Embedded Systems and Pervasive Computing. Our mission is to enhance the state-of-the-art in these areas, while delivering value-added services to industrial and academic partners by building critical mass, creating high-quality human resources and establishing partnership programs. The laboratory is part of the Center of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (CEEI), and has a first-class infrastructure, with development and research labs, lecture rooms, lecturers' rooms, and meeting rooms. |

The Mobile Computing department at the Hagenberg campus offers a Bachelor's and a Master's degree programme which combine software development, communications technologies and telecommunications engineering in its syllabus. All relevant areas of the mobile computing field are covered, including conceptualisation of communications systems, development of new interactive technologies for mobile phone applications, design of a smart home environment, or implementation of new mobile services. The department hosts 6 full-time professors specialising in different areas of mobile computing. |

Established in 1961, the College of Engineering at San Diego State University offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees through its four departments. The Embedded Systems and Pervasive Computing Center and Nokia partnership laboratory is a unit of the college of engineering. The Nokia partneship laboratory was established in 2005, and offers graduate courses in mobile computing and wireless sensor networks. The laboratory also organises several seminars throughout the year in the area of human-centric sensor networks, wireless sensor networks, and mobile computing. The laboratory is home to several graduate students and three faculty working in the broad area of wireless sensor networks, mobile computing, multimedia, wireless healthcare, and smart grids. |

The traditional strengths of the department are software engineering, usability, and computer science. Regarding mobile devices, our research spans a broad range of topics from the foundations of web applications (as opposed to web pages or documents), mobile web applications and user interaction techniques, to topics such as mashup development, client-server partitioning of web applications, and collaborative and context-aware web services. |
