Avoid addressing the user in the second person. Use a neutral tone or passive voice but use a formal address when necessary. Avoid using "Please" when addressing the user. Exceptions to this are some Copyright texts, and particularly short imperative sentences, where it might otherwise sound a little abrupt without "Please", for example, "Please wait."
