Avoid Using Acronyms

As a general rule, avoid acronyms especially on the main menu level. However, sometimes acronyms are used in other locations in the UI, and in rare cases on main menu levels. The following acronyms are either currently in use or have previously been used in the UI:

• DTMF (in UK English only)

• GPRS/EGPRS

• GSM

• ID (caller ID, Nokia Club ID, user ID)

• IM (short form for instant messaging)

• IP (for Internet protocol, short form)

• IR (for infrared, short form)

• ISDN (data call types)

• MMS (on low levels to refer to the bearer)

• PIN (code types)

• PUK (code types)

• RFID (wallet)

• SIM

• SMS (on low levels to refer to the bearer)

• UMTS

• USIM (Universal SIM card)

• USSD (in browser)

• WAP
