Description

Nokia Web Tools provides a set of tools that enable the creation of Series 40 web apps. The tools included are:

  • Web Developer Environment — enabling web apps to be created, edited, packaged and deployed.
  • Web Apps Simulator — enabling web apps to be previewed and debugged on a computer.
  • Web Developer Channel — included in Web Developer Environment, to deliver information and tools to facilitate web app development.

What's new

This new version of the Nokia Web Tools, which is based on Eclipse JSDT, provides new features for:

  • creating web apps for Nokia Browser for Series 40 1.5.
  • debugging web apps in the Web App Simulator, using an implementation of Web Inspector.
  • testing location based web apps in the Web App Simulator.
  • simulator skins for Touch and Type and non-touch phones.
  • geography specific data centres with options for China or rest of the world servers (selected during installation).
  • improved code assist and validation during app authoring and packaging.
  • usability enhancements such as new toolbar, better icons, and labels.
  • enhanced preview workflow in the form of local and cloud previews.
  • providing feedback from within the Web Developer Channel.
  • option to run Network Diagnostics.

Dedicated servers for China

The Nokia Browser for Series 40 servers for China have not yet been updated to support version 1.5 of the browser and web apps. The servers are expected to be available shortly. For more information and status updates, please refer to this discussion board thread. Until the China servers become available, Nokia Web Tools 1.2.1 remains available from the download dropdown.

Symbian WRT widget development

This version of Nokia Web Tools no longer supports Symbian WRT widget development. If you wish to continue using Nokia Web Tools 1.2 for Symbian WRT widget development, please refer to the Installation Guide for details on the setup requirements.

App publication

Web apps created with Nokia Web Tools can be submitted for publication in Nokia Store.

Versions available

Nokia Web Tools are available in versions for:

  • 32- or 64-bit Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.
  • 32-bit Ubuntu Linux 10.04.
  • 64-bit Apple Mac OS X 10.6.
